University of Prince Edward Island
University of Prince Edward Island
The only university on Prince Edward Island has four faculties – arts, science, education and veterinary medicine – along with a business school and nursing school. All first-year students have to choose one of three mandatory courses: writing, global studies or university studies.

With 72 exchange agreements with universities in 29 countries, the University of Prince Edward Island’s international exchange program can hold its own with those found at larger schools. In keeping with the institution’s efforts to internationalise, the student union pairs Canadians with exchange students to help them feel at home. The university’s priority is to position graduates for success in a rapidly changing world by introducing students to different cultures, whether on campus or around the world.

At the heart of campus is the historic quadrangle, known for its distinctive red-brick buildings, which date back to the 19th century. Modern buildings have been added over the years, including a student centre, an apartment-style residence and a recreation centre with a 25-metre pool and two NHL-size rinks. The new School of Sustainable Design Engineering opened in 2016 and features state-of-the-art design studios. The south-east part of campus borders on the Charlottetown Farmers’ Market, and the sandy splendour of Brackley Beach is just a short distance away.
